La Creu de Santos
La Creu de Santos is one of the most emblematic points of the Serra de Cardó, offering visitors a unique experience with its panoramic views and its rich natural and cultural heritage. Located at the highest altitude of the mountain range, the cross becomes a place of pilgrimage and reflection, as well as an exceptional viewpoint from where you can contemplate the impressive landscapes of the region. The ascent route to the Creu de Santos is an exciting adventure for lovers of nature and hiking. During the ascent, visitors can admire the local flora and fauna, as well as discover ancient hermitages and fountains that are part of the heritage of the area. Once at the top, the Cross of Santos is revealed as a symbol of peace and serenity. It is an ideal place to take a break and soak up the beauty of the surroundings, with views that stretch to the Mediterranean on clear days. The visit to the Cross of Santos is not only a physical journey, but also a spiritual experience that leaves an indelible mark on all who do it.
Breathtaking views
La Creu de Santos and Xàquera offer 360º panoramic views. Observe the sea to the east, the Serra del Montsià to the south, the Massís dels Ports to the west and the peaks of the Pyrenees to the north. On very clear days you can see as far as the Balearic Islands.
Hermitages and fountains
Take the opportunity to visit three interesting hermitages: the Columna, Àngel and Trinitat. You will also find the Font del Teix, one of the most beautiful in the area.
Teixeda de Cosp
The Teixeda de Cosp is, most likely, one of the oldest forests in all of Catalonia. It has nearly 300 specimens of yew trees (teix in Catalan), among which the Teix Pare stands out; a tree listed as Monumental that is located next to the Font del Teix; currently closed. Some of the yew trees are a thousand years old!
Access and duration
The route starts from the old Spa of Cardó. The total distance is about 7 km with a difference in altitude of 650 m. Estimate a time of around 3.5 hours to complete it. It is a relatively easy route, but bring water and suitable footwear.
